A Library in Cairo

Control the Find has put seeking 501(3)c non-profit status on hold in order to focus on the project "A Library in Cairo".

Your contributions for this project are tax-deductible through a partnership with The Book Thing of Baltimore, which has agreed to ship the books through its recycling center, thus allowing us to take advantage of it's non-profit status.

A Library in Cairo seeks to build an English Literature collection for Egypt's first-ever K-12 school exclusively for orphans, which finished construction in September 2011 thanks to support from the country's leading NGO, Resala. By April 2012, the school's Library will be open to students, and so we are planning to ship the books to arrive as close to the opening date as possible in order to maximize supplementing students' English education.

The costs we need to cover include 4 months of storage ($500), packing materials ($250), and an ocean liner freight container shipment ($3,750).

Sign up for our 1st Annual Photo Competition!

Teams of 1-3 photographers may submit up to 5 photos in 3 different categories. Submissions will be judged privately for final selection to be shown at a voting exhibit in Baltimore City, where a 3-day online poll will take place to select the best photo(s) in each category. Winners will receive small portion of the proceeds along with substantial gift certificates to local businesses.

Application is $30 and helps get us closer to our goal of founding A Library in Cairo!

Not sure the other options are for you? Well, luckily you can still support the initiative by sending us your unwanted books! We are currently only looking for FICTION, POETRY, JOURNALISM, TRAVEL WRITING and BIOGRAPHIES / AUTOBIOGRAPHIES for ages K-12. We will NOT use text books, workbooks, or anything geared more towards academic instruction.
